Ecuador - MACHALILLIA

If you are limited for time (and money) to visit the Galapagos Islands or you would like to go whalewatching, you will want to include a visit to the Machalilla National Park. The park’s main attraction is Isla de la Plata, which is located 37 km (23 miles) off the coast. You will have the chance to see albatrosses; blue-footed, masked and red-footed boobies; frigate birds; and sea lions. From June through September, it is common to see whales passing through the area en-route to the island.

Other popular activities in the area include exploring some archaeological sites, visiting Los Frailes Beach or hiking in the park.
